- 1996 Luciano, p. 44:
The absence of the Barbédienne foundry mark makes it likely that this charming bronze was one of those issued by the artist himself starting in 1860. The reddish marble base is almost identical to that seen on the same model in Horswell's catalogue [Bronze Sculpture of "Les Animaliers" Reference and Price Guide, London: Antique Collector's Club, 1971, p. 187]. This suggests that both casts were produced by the same atelier, most likely Frémiet's.
