Comment
- Museum's website, July 22, 2011:
Chinard was the most gifted artist in Lyon during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. This beautifully modeled statuette - Chinard's earliest known documented work - was commissioned for the private chapel of the Charcot family at their estate near Lyon. Strongly influenced by the seventeenth century Italian Baroque style, the statuette was conceived as finished sculpture, not as model for larger work in another medium.
