  • The model is based on the painting Hyena Attacked by Two Mastiffs, painted by Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755) in 1739 and in the Mecklenburg-Schwerin collection since 1750. This painting is one of a series of hunt subjects painted by Oudry for the Royal Botanical Garden at the Trianon in Versailles between 1739 and 1745.
    Other examples of this model: in the Palais du Luxembourg, Paris (a 19th-century biscuit); in the Musée des Arts décoratifs, Paris; in the Hôtel de Salm, Museum of the Legion of honor, Paris (a 19th-century biscuit).
